Advantages
Gasification-derived fuel gas advantages:
- Burns cleanly, like natural gas. Customers can suppy biomass-derived fuel gas to existing boilers, dryers, and other equipment.
- Reduced Emissions. Gasification affords the opportunity to clean the fuel prior to combustion. Conditioning the biomass before it is burned in a boiler or other appliance provides a unique opportunity to remove particulates and other contaminants in the gas stream before it is used.
- Burn in Internal Combustion Engines. Higher efficiencies for electricity production are possible with this approach than traditional boiler-based steam cycles.
- Can be processed into chemicals, liquid fuels, and gases. Biomass can be easily processed into other products, such as hydrogen, methanol, ethanol, and ammonia. Converting the entire biomass material to gas has the potential to produce over 100 gallons of ethanol per ton of biomass, which is much higher than enzymatic processes.
