Jerod Smeenk, MSME

Education: B.S. in Engineering (Dordt College); M.S. in Mechanical Engineering (Iowa State University)
Experience: Mr. Smeenk has over a decade of project management experience, as well as researching and designing thermo-chemical systems for biomass. During this time he has been active in biomass research, development, demonstration, and commercialization of solid fuel gasification and gas cleaning systems. To support these efforts, Mr. Smeenk has designed, built, and operated numerous biomass conversion systems, including a fluid bed gasifier for Pioneer Hi-Bred International, as well as systems for ISU and several other organizations.
Mr. Smeenk was most recently the President of Carbon Energy Technology, Inc., an engineering firm that provided consulting services for companies looking to use biomass energy. He has also worked at ISU’s Center for Sustainable Environmental Technologies as a project engineer developing thermo-chemical conversion technology.
